David Duncan

In Memorium

David was with JES from the very start. As the Assistant Deputy Minister for Court Services, David worked with the Chief Justice of BC and the Ministry to establish a society focused on educating the public about legal matters related to the Courts. David served on the Board of Directors through the tenures of JES’s first ED, Rick Craig, and his successor, Sonia Poulin. He also provided considerable assistance to Carmen in her orientation as the new JES CEO in the second half of 2025. David was our governance expert and worked very hard with JES staff and the Board to develop the policies and procedures we use today.

David was an integral part of JES’ international programs from the start. He was directly involved in our work in South Africa, JES’s first international venture. He remained involved throughout his time at JES, including on his last trip to our programs in Central America in 2024, when he met many of our current staff. He was always impressed by the work JES staff did, and he knew our services would continue into the distant future.

David never lost sight of the important parts of the organization, both large and small. He knew that it was the quality of our people - staff and volunteers - that led to success. He set a fine personal example for us all. We will remember David with the greatest affection and will miss him very much. For those of you who did not get to meet him, he was the finest of gentlemen.
