Reforming the Family Relations Act: A Dialogue for Change
Reforming the Family Relations Act: A Dialogue for Change, was a Community Forum held on March 10th, 2008 at the SFU Wosk Centre for Dialogue in Vancouver, BC, Canada
The Forum was a unique chance to be part of the process of law reform. It brought together people with either the personal or professional experience to offer an informed and diverse perspective about changes to the Family Relations Act. The Forum was designed to assist the Ministry of Attorney General (Ministry) by facilitating a broader dialogue on two critical topics: children’s participation and violence as a factor in determining children’s best interests. The forum discussion provided valuable feedback to the Ministry and will help form the basis for a new and improved Family Relations Act.
As organizers of the Forum, the Society is proud of what was accomplished and we wish to acknowledge the personal commitments made by so many people in order to contribute to the discussion.
The outcomes of this discussion have been transcribed and summarized in the “Forum Report”. Prior to the Forum the “Discussion Paper” was distributed to the participants and was also included in the Forum folder. Many of the discussion points have been incorporated in the 2010 proposed changes to the Family Relations Act.
