Legal Independence: It's Your Right is a FREE resource that uses real-life examples in an engaging, 10-minute video to help Civics 11, Social Studies 11 and Law 12 students understand the concepts of judicial and legal independence. A Teacher's Guide is available. This project was developed in partnership with The Law Society of BC.

CourtsofBC.ca is a website that provides educational information and instructional videos about BC’s Provincial Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. In the videos Alex, a student interested in learning more about BC’s court system, speaks to three judges about the role and functions of the three courts. In addition to the videos, this resource also features downloadable student handouts and a Teacher's Guide.

Accessing Court Documents Online

Accessing Court Documents Online provides instructional videos to help self-representing litigants access court records using Court Services Online (CSO). This popular video series provides basic information to help litigants search and find the documents they need. Topics include Searching for Civil Court Info and Viewing the Case Basics and the Parties Involved.

Legal Rights for Youth

LegalRights4U.ca uses animated videos and handouts to teach young people about their rights and responsibilities in Canada. Scenarios include Street Freedoms, Don’t Look in My Locker and The Party. A teacher’s guide is also provided.

Victims Information

Are you a victim of or witness to a crime in British Columbia? VictimsInfo.ca will give you the resources and information you need to deal with the consequences of crime. Topics include Services for Victims, Reporting a Crime, Criminal Charges, Going to Court and Sentencing.

Administrative Law BC

AdminLawBC.ca helps British Columbians learn about administrative law, search for and prepare for a tribunal by bringing information on the complete range of administrative law resources together under one domain. The website features three videos, the BC Admin Law Directory of 100+ tribunals and a list of experts available to speak about numerous administrative law areas.

BC Small Claims Court

SmallClaimsBC.ca provides an introduction to the Small Claims Pilot, which aims to ensure faster and earlier solutions to small claims cases. The site’s videos explain summary and simplified trials, mediations, trials and trial conferences. The site also features downloadable forms and provides information in French, Simplified Chinese, Punjabi and Vietnamese.

Court Tips for Parents

Parents in Supreme Court regarding a child support order must be properly prepared to present their cases. CourtTips.ca features seven instructional videos on this area of family law, including Presenting Your Case in Chambers, Avoiding the Pitfalls in Family Matters and What to Expect the Day of the Hearing.

Aboriginal Parenting After Separation

The Aboriginal Parenting After Separation program helps Aboriginal parents through the separation process. The program's resources include a Parent's Handbook, the Aboriginal Parenting After Separation Toolkit, videos, worksheets and checklists.

Your Voice in Criminal Court

Your Voice in Criminal Court is designed for use by Victim Service Workers and other professionals to educate victims and witnesses about the criminal court process. The materials will help orient adult witnesses for Provincial Court. An informational booklet accompanies the DVD.
