
Duel with the Devil is a story of a project aimed at helping the Guatemalan justice system become more effective at doing its job, while restoring the faith that citizens should have in this system.

Shot entirely in Vietnam, this documentary follows a delegation of Canadian and Vietnamese experts as they apply a model for developing public legal education. Viewers are invited into conversations about legal rights and obligations with women, farmers, and local community leaders and learn how public legal education can lead to justice through knowledge.

African Women Join Hands Against Violence takes viewers inside safe houses to hear personal stories from African women and girls forced to flee abuse. This stunning documentary tells how the unique partnership between JES and two African organizations is working to combat an epidemic of domestic violence.

On the Road to Justice documents the journey of a group of Guatemalan Mayans into the Nisga’a, Shuswap, and Tsilhqot’in nations in northern British Columbia. Through dialogues and dances, stories and songs, the group discovers how First Nations communities are reclaiming and restoring their traditional justice practices.

On January 27, the Society hosted Central American Crime: Justice In Our Times. The event, part of the Society’s annual “Judicial Community Liaison Program,” offered BC judges the opportunity to learn more about issues that impact our communities. This year’s program focused on the international impact of crime in Central America

In collaboration with the Justice Education Society, The Criminal Justice Branch of the Ministry of the Attorney General hosted a lunch and learn session with Helen Mack, the leading Human Rights activist from Guatemala. Ms. Mack outlined the proposed changes to the justice system that are now occurring as the justice system moves from an inquisitorial format to adversarial one.
