New Supreme Court Website Launched

On July 1, the Supreme Court of BC introduced new civil and family rules, which are meant to make the civil and family justice systems more responsive, accessible and efficient.

Coinciding with these new rules, the Justice Education Society has launched a new website, www.SupremeCourtBC.ca, which focuses on providing the public with self-help resources so that they may better navigate the Supreme Court of BC.

The website brings together a number of resources produced by the Society, including a series of 22 new Guidebooks for Representing Yourself in Supreme Court Civil Matters publications with topics ranging from: A Guide to a Successful Interview with a Lawyer, to Costs in Supreme Court, to Trials in Supreme Court, all complete with forms and annotated notes.

In addition to the guidebooks, the website is the new home of Civil Case Tip Sheets, Court Tips for Parents, Family Law and You, Representing Yourself in Criminal Court, and more.

On June 15, Vancouver’s Justice Access Centre (Vancouver JAC) was officially opened. The Centre provides hands-on support for those with family justice and civil justice matters. The centre’s focus is on solving problems through out-of-court settlements, but also to better prepare those who do go to court.

Furthermore, the Supreme Court Self-Help Centre is now called: JAC Self-help and Information Services. As a result of these changes, www.SupremeCourtSelfHelp.bc.ca was updated and a broader range of information is now available online.
