Online Legal Resource for Teachers Re-launched
Teaching Resources, Information Hosted at LawConnection.ca
Vancouver, BC – LawConnection.ca, an online resource for British Columbian teachers, has been re-launched. The site features a new, more-efficient design and updated content.
LawConnection.ca details important issues happening in the law today - matters being dealt with in the media, the courts or the legislature. Each issue features a backgrounder, which is written by Law Clerks at the BC Courts and provides all information required to teach the lesson. Also included are teaching resources that give students a chance to engage in activities and discussions that enhance the learning process.
The website was launched in 1996 by the Centre for Education, Law and Society (CELS) in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University. In 2002, CELS developed a partnership with the Justice Education Society.
Designed primarily for Social Studies teachers, LawConnection.ca will regularly highlight legal issues during the school year. Current topics include:
• Environment and Climate Change
• Evidence and Forensics
• Judicial Appointment
• Police Oversight
• Same Sex Marriage
• Sentencing Theory
• The Role of Judges
About the Law Courts Education Society
Since 1989, the Law Courts Education Society (LCES) has been dedicated to improving access to the legal system through hands-on, targeted, two-way education between the public and those working in the justice system. As a non-profit organization with ongoing public and private sector financial and volunteer support, the LCES is able to offer a unique and comprehensive collection of justice related educational services and effectively work towards creating a justice system that is accessible to all.
