The Aboriginal Parenting After Separation program helps Aboriginal parents through the separation process. The program's resources include a Parent's Handbook, the Aboriginal Parenting After Separation Toolkit, videos, worksheets and checklists.

Northern Native Public Legal Education

The Northern Native Public Legal Education program provides culturally-sensitive outreach services for First Nations communities throughout Northern BC. Outreach sessions and Courtlink programs are designed for students; adult programs are available as well. Topics include court processes, justice system careers and comparisons between current and First Nations justice practices.

The program includes a free three-hour session for parents that will empower them to make informed decisions about resolving issues after separation. Topics include helping children deal with parental separation and dispute resolution options. The program also includes resources for support workers and parents.

The website features three videos, the BC Admin Law Directory of 100+ tribunals and a list of experts available to speak about numerous administrative law areas.

BC Small Claims Court

SmallClaimsBC.ca provides an introduction to the Small Claims Pilot, which aims to ensure faster and earlier solutions to small claims cases. The site’s videos explain summary and simplified trials, mediations, trials and trial conferences. The site also features downloadable forms and provides information in French, Simplified Chinese, Punjabi and Vietnamese.

Kids in the Middle

Kids in the Middle is a program for Aboriginal parents, their families and their communities. The program provides information and exercises to help couples who are separating; and to help children deal with a family break up. A Facilitator’s Package and Parent's Handbook are available.

Choices and Consequences

Choices and Consequences is an intensive program for youth aged 11-14 who are facing school suspension for making poor choices. This program is designed for students who are ready to take responsibility for their behaviour and to acquire important skills for making more pro-social choices.

Courtlink

The Courtlink Program provides an introduction to the justice system. The program features three subjects: Auto Crime Prevention, Youth-at-Risk and Aboriginal Youth-at-Risk. Topics discussed include racism, attitudes toward the police and justice system, auto crime prevention and property crime. Teachers’ guides are included.

First Nations Journeys of Justice

With the vision of building bridges between the First Nations and Canadian systems of law, First Nations Journeys of Justice honours oral history and teaches concepts and practices of justice from the perspective of First Nations ways of knowing. The program contains modules for grades 1-7.
